The San Juan Weavers Guild was established January 13, 1977 by nine women. Their purpose was to celebrate the art and craft of handweaving and handspinning. Over the years the Guild has been actively involved in preserving the arts of handweaving and handspinning by educating the public through demonstrations, etc. The Guild has also supported a number of different groups, who are working to preserve handweaving and handspinning. Such as the Navajo Sheep Project, the Mountain Valley Developmental Services weaving program, HGA and WARP, just to name a few. The San Juan Weavers Guild has grown to number eighty plus members, several of which are nationally known weavers, spinners and teachers. Weavers and Spinners of all levels of experience are gladly welcomed.
Members of the San Juan Weavers Guild gather to celebrate the art and craft of handweaving and handspinning. Through the Guild, members share a common thread with weavers and spinners everywhere. Guild activities stimulate and support creative efforts and provide educational opportunities for members and the community. The San Juan Weavers Guild meets in Montrose, Colorado and includes textile addicts and fiber artists from all across the Western Slope of Colorado. Membership is open to everyone interested in textiles, and visitors are welcome at all meetings. Individual and family memberships are available.
Many members are excited about participating in the annual fiber arts show and sale held every November. Many shoppers add this event to their Christmas shopping calendars, too - there are lots of unique and beautiful handmade items for a special gift.
The 2009 Show & Sale will
be held November 21 Admission is free, everyone is welcome. Regularly Scheduled Activities
